Project progress report conference
On October 31, 2022, a press conference was held in the conference hall of the Municipality of Beloslav, at which the progress in the implementation of the activities under the project “Introduction of an innovative model to reduce the amount of plastic waste in the marine environment from land-based sources”, financed under the Financial Mechanism, was presented of the European Economic Area (EEA FM) 2014 – 2021 within the framework of the “Environmental Protection and Climate Change” Program.
The project aims to reduce plastic waste from land-based sources in marine waters by implementing a pilot model, part of the Precious plastic global system for recycling and recovering plastic waste.
Within the framework of the event, the progress in the implementation of each of the activities of the project was reported, as well as the results achieved, namely the built and functioning local system for separate collection and recycling of plastic with the active participation of citizens, the equipped municipal centre, the campaigns carried out with the local community and the training conducted within the framework of the “Circular Economy Academy” activity.
Representatives of the partners implementing the project, representatives of the Regional Information Center – Varna, and representatives of the media and non-governmental organizations took part in the conference. Special guests at the event were the Deputy Minister of Environment and Water, Petar Dimitrov and Yavor Dimitrov – Director of the Black Sea Region Basin Directorate.
During the press conference, the film “The Mirror” was presented, realized with the joint actions of the Public Center for Environment and Sustainable Development and the journalists Viliana Ivanova and Daniela Georgieva, dedicated to the ecological state of Varna – Beloslav Lake, seen through the prism of the actions of the local authorities and citizens’ initiatives, including an hour of activities under project BGENVIRONMENT-2.003-0001 “Introducing an innovative model to reduce the amount of plastic waste in the marine environment from land-based sources.”
The project is implemented by the municipality of Beloslav in partnership with “Ecoinvest Assets” JSC, the “Green Industry Innovation and Technology Transfer” Foundation and the Norwegian consulting company International Development Norway and is financed under the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEF) 2014 – 2021 within the framework of the “Environmental Protection and Climate Change” Program. The project’s total value is BGN 280,915.79, with the grant amounting to BGN 263,467.64.
