Interreg Euro-MED CO2 PACMAN Publishes Its Second Newsletter

The Interreg Euro-MED CO2 PACMAN project has released the second edition of its newsletter, highlighting major achievements, collaborative initiatives, and upcoming events dedicated to advancing climate neutrality across Mediterranean islands.

A major milestone for the project is the successful launch of the CO2 PACMAN TOOL, an innovative digital platform designed to help users model decarbonisation pathways. The tool allows public authorities, policymakers, and stakeholders to assess how various measures can influence future emissions and to build realistic, context-specific scenarios for achieving climate neutrality. This marks a significant step toward empowering territories with actionable insights for long-term sustainability planning.

The newsletter highlights the outcomes of the Open Innovation Collaborative Action, which brought together companies, startups, SMEs, and research institutions in a dynamic online environment. Focusing on the project’s three pilot islands—Brač (Croatia), Crete (Greece), and Elba (Italy)—the platform facilitated the co-creation of innovative strategies in sustainability, decarbonization, and smart resource management.

Another key achievement showcased in the newsletter is the successful conclusion of the CO2 PACMAN Business Forum, held in Valencia at the end of June 2025. The event gathered a vibrant community of innovators, decision-makers, and investors committed to building a sustainable Mediterranean future.

From October 14 to 16, 2025, the island of Brač hosted the first edition of the CO2 PACMAN “The Island I Would Like” Lab—a dynamic three-day event focused on empowering citizens to take part in the climate transition. Participants engaged in collaborative workshops, innovation sessions, and educational activities aimed at reducing carbon emissions and building climate resilience.

Two key participatory components—AskyourcitizenonCaN and Vox Populi—played an essential role by gathering feedback, concerns, and aspirations directly from residents. Their contributions are shaping the project’s next steps and ensuring that community voices remain central to local decision-making.

Following the success of the Brač Lab, the project is preparing for the next editions of The Island I Would Like Labs. The upcoming workshops will take place in:

  • Elba: 22–24 March 2026
  • Crete: 28–30 April 2026
